About Us

History

AIPL was founded in 1997 as the Acoustic Information Processing Lab, LLC by Amy Weissfeld and Ken Levy with a vision to create top notch recording software for the PC environment. Actually, our original business plan, which was the final project for Amy’s MBA, was to become a speech recognition company based upon Ken’s Ph.D. in Computational Auditory Neurophysiology. The business plan clearly showed that speech recognition was not the place for a small, bootstrap startup; thus, we moved into top-tier plug-ins. From there, we developed a system to securely distribute music and movies.

Our security system was licensed by Digimarc, one of the fastest growing public companies in Oregon. Ken worked at Digimarc for 4½ years, helping to develop their global licensing program for digital watermarking, as well as create secure identity architecture for Digimarc’s drivers licenses business. Since December 2004, Ken is back at AIPL full time. Welcome back, Ken!

The Lab Today

Vision: A top-notch private virtual laboratory that combines marketing and R&D to develop technology which is licensed to businesses and consumers.

Mission: A small, virtual lab where every employee enjoys their job and contributes to their community, and every customer is satisfied.

Location: The lab is located on the beautiful bluffs of the Columbia River Gorge in Stevenson, WA. This location motivates creative “out of the box” thought, not to mention that the windsurfing, skiing, mountain biking and hiking are incredible.

Next Steps

The next steps include evolving our existing suite of audio products, licensing the technology and IP to hardware and software vendors, expanding into information management, and spending 20% of our time on other visionary projects.

Information Management provides PC users simpler access to the information that exists on computers. That computer may be located in someone’s office, down the hall, or on the other side of the world. Traditional information and digital asset management systems are not used, because it is difficult for users to enter information into them. AIPL is working on solving this problem with automatic organization of information. Our goal is to transform the information age as the assembly line transformed the industrial revolution. In other words, AIPL is working on solving the problem “If HP only knew what HP knows.”
