If you experience any problems (with our program or others), the first step is to reboot your computer and try again. Recording music is hard on Windows, and your PC sometimes just needs to be rebooted. If the reboot does not fix the problem, please continue reading. In addition, if you have version 2.1 and decide not to upgrade for FREE (download 201kB), these FAQs are applicable to v2.1

SpinCycle FAQs
I cannot find AIPL SpinCycle.
What is DirectX?
AIPL SpinCycle is not a stand-alone program. It runs from within you DirectX compatible recording studio. You must look for "AIPL SpinCycle" to be listed in your studio's DirectX plug-in list (usually under the effects or transform menu).
DirectX plug-ins (a.k.a. DirectShow) is a Microsoft standard that allows sound effect plug-in vendors to make one product that is compatible with most major studios, including shareware and retail products (see Audio Links web page). AIPL's plug-ins are compatible with these studios as well as any other DirectX audio plug-in compatible studio.
If you are looking at the DirectX menu and "AIPL SpinCycle v2.2" does not appear, you may need to refresh your DirectX plug-in list from your recording studio or re-register AIPL SpinCycle. To refresh your list, look for a refresh or regenerate button in your recording studio. To re-register:
- In the Start Menu, select Run
- Type "regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\AIPL\SpinCycle v2.2\Spin2.ax" (or if you changed the default installation location, use the location to which you installed)
- You should receive a confirmation window that it was registered
- Close and re-open your studio, or refresh your plug-in list to see "AIPL SpinCycle v2.2"
SpinCycle cannot be found by my DirectX recording studio.
Sometimes, if SpinCycle is not installed to the default location, the DirectX software recording studio cannot find the plug-in. Thus, the solution is to please re-install SpinCycle to the default location. At the beginning of the installation, when asked to uninstall the previous version, select Yes. Then, later during the installation, don’t change the default location. If you have removed the setup file, please re-download it and then re-install.
What is the difference between the Standard and Pro version? The Standard version will not activate the ProSound and Dither buttons, whereas the Pro version does. ProSound and dithering produce cleaner sounds by eliminating digital byproducts. This is the only difference, and although it seems like a small difference, use the resulting sound quality to make your decision in which version to buy.
I cannot adjust sliders accurately enough. When you move the sliders with the mouse they jump several spaces. However, you can select the slider with the mouse, then use the arrow keys to move the slider by one digit. You use right and left arrow keys for horizontal sliders, and up and down arrow keys for vertical sliders.
How can I get Surround Sound with stereo output? You run two instances of SpinCycle on two tracks of identical audio, one instance with both microphones in front of the speaker (i.e. the Behind Speaker button is not selected), and another instance with both microphones behind the speaker (i.e. the Behind Speaker button is selected). Mic1 should be located at (25,50) and Mic2 should be located at (75,50),for both instances. The output of the first instance is connected to your front channels, and the second instance to your rear channels. In addition, use the Same Spin button so the speakers spin in the same direction. Check out the Room Spin (Surround-) presets. More information is also available in the Behind Speaker section of Mic Placement and the Surround Sound section in AIPL SpinCycle’s help.
I cannot select Mic2. Mic2 is only active before or after processing, but not during. Thus, stop processing (e.g. stop previewing) and the button will be activated. If you stop processing and the button is not activated, your studio may have not stopped processing, but only paused it. You can tell this because the SpinCycle's levels LEDs are bright green. In this case, first close the plug-in and/or remove it from the active plug-in chain, and then reactivate and/or open the plug-in. The Mic2 button should now be enabled. If this doesn't work, try turning off the "power" for the plug-in from the recording studio.
The output is terrible when Mic2 is selected. When Mic2 is selected, the input is turned into stereo output. Some recording studios ignore the stereo output for mono input, and wrongly play the sound. In some cases, this is fixed by transforming the mono input into a stereo input with the second channel equal to zero (using an internal effect or command, such as conversion of data type), and then running SpinCycle. In other cases, you can use the effect on an auxiliary track in the mixing console view because the auxiliary send is in stereo.
In addition, try searching the studio's help and web site for stereo effects. If nothing works, please contact us and your recording studio manufacturer to fix this bug. Remind the studio manufacturer at that time to allow you to interact with the plug-in while saving the data. Sorry for the trouble!
I hear clicking noises while previewing. This means your processor is not fast enough for real-time previewing, or too many other programs are running simultaneously. If other programs are running, stop them. Sometimes an antivirus or desktop search program needs to be paused. Most importantly, these clicks will not be present when saving the data!
SpinCycle, without ProSound selected, can be previewed in real-time on a Pentium 133 or faster, even with stereo output. You may want to Preview without ProSound and then process the file with ProSound selected.
In addition, remember that the demo version adds short, low level beeps to the audio every 20 seconds.
I hear short beeps in my audio. The demo version adds short, low level beeps to the audio every 20 seconds. These are obviously not present in the retail version.
Is it 16, 24 or 32-bit processing? Both the Standard and Pro version use 24-bit processing, even if you have a 16-bit studio. For 16-bit recording studios, the dither button allows you to use dithering when converting the 24-bit resulting sound back to 16-bits. For 24-bit studios, the results are left at 24-bit, and dithering can be selected but is not needed. Finally, our 24-bit processing is sometimes also called 32-bit processing since we use 32-bit floats. However, since only 24 of the 32 bits determine the precision (i.e. 23 bit mantissa with 8 bits are for the exponent), we label our processing as 24-bit. More about dither...
SpinCycle warned me that my audio has become desynchronized. SpinCycle must add a 10 ms delay at the beginning of the audio stream to keep it synchronized with other streams. It adds the last 10 ms at the tail of the audio stream. If over time, these buffers are used up, SpinCycle warns you that the horns are desynchronizes and recreates the buffer. However, this may cause a click in your audio.
In addition, this 10 ms delay is such a minimal delay it should be no problem. However, if it is a problem, you may want to add some zeros at the end of the audio stream, and, after processing, chop the initial and remaining zeros.
Finally, to remove delay, some audio editing studios have small buffers. You may want to increase your buffer size in your audio editing software if you receive this error (which is usually described in their help file).
I cannot select AutoSpeed and AutoRhythm. These two buttons cannot be selected at the same time as they both control the speed of the horns. Thus, when one button is selected the other button is deselected. As usual, you can click on the selected button to turn it off (i.e. neither have to be selected).
I cannot deselect AutoSpeed or AutoRhythm. You can click on the selected button to turn it off.
