Installation FAQs

I cannot install in Windows XP.

I receive an error "C:/Windows/system32/autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS."

Although infrequent, we have found that the installation program will not run on Windows XP. However, WarmTone will work perfectly once installed. As such, the solution is to use our manual installation. Please download the manual installation file by clicking here and save to your computer (e.g. Desktop). Then, run the manual installation file (e.g. double click on it from the Desktop). The manual installation runs for a few seconds, lets you know that the plug-in was registered, and then disappears. At this time, the plug-in is installed. The plug-in can only be run from a DirectX compatible audio editor, and the help can be accessed from the Start Menu - All Programs - AIPL - WarmTone.

Software FAQs

I cannot finds AIPL WarmTone

What is DirectX?

AIPL WarmTone is not a stand-alone program. It runs from within you DirectX compatible recording studio. You must look for "AIPL WarmTone" to be listed in your studio's DirectX (previously known as ActiveMovie) plug-in list.

DirectX Media Streaming Services (DMSS) is a Microsoft standard that allows sound effect plug-in vendors to make one product that is compatible with most major studios, including shareware and retail products (see Links Page). AIPL's plug-ins are compatible with these studios as well as any other DirectX audio plug-in compatible studio. DMSS used to be known as ActiveMovie filters and the products are commonly called DirectX audio plug-ins.

What is the difference between the Standard and Pro version?
The Standard version will not activate the ProSound button, whereas the Pro version does. ProSound produces cleaner sounds by eliminating digital byproducts. This is the only difference, and although it seems like a small difference, use the resulting sound quality to make your decision in which version to buy.

Is it 16, 24 or 32-bit processing?
Both the Standard and Pro version use 24-bit processing, even if you have a 16-bit studio. For 16-bit recording studios, the dither button allows you to use dithering when converting the 24-bit resulting sound back to 16-bits. For 24-bit studios, the results are left at 24-bit, and dithering can be selected but is not needed. Finally, our 24-bit processing is sometimes also called 32-bit processing since we use 32-bit floats. However, since only 24 of the 32 bits determine the precision (i.e. 23 bit mantissa with 8 bits are for the exponent), we label our processing as 24-bit. More about dither...

I hear clicking noises while previewing.
This means your processor is not fast enough for real-time previewing, or too many other programs are running simultaneously. If other programs are running, stop them. Most importantly, these clicks will not be present when saving the data! WarmTone, without ProSound selected, should be able to be previewed in real-time on a Pentium 133 or faster, even with stereo files. You may want to preview without ProSound selected, but when saving, select ProSound.
